Somali Culture
People learn from each other, and like to know the ways of the other nations and races in order to come nearer to each other. It is better to have an idea of a lot things, like religion, technics, cultural activities and folklore, etc. of other peoples in the world. This is called multicultural and intermingling of nations globally for better understanding of one another.
I enjoy the Bull fighting and wrestling above all the sports and the entertainment of cultures of the others. I want to share with you here in this page some of the folklore the Somalis play and entertain which are follows:
It is about his dream lady
This is a Somali folklore and I have chosen it because of the singer being the best in describing his ideal lady to marry; The game (play) is Ok like other folklores of Somalia.
However, this guy is special in his poem by singing and explaining the dream lady he is planning to marry. The women and the young ladies are not in the seen but in the backstage watching the play and cheering.
Let me try to translate some of his poem singing while the others are dancing in the ring playground; I missed some points and could not catch but have six points out of nine.
The speech is directed to the audience to inform them what type of lady he has in mind. He is counting nine (9) points he wants from the lady that he intends to marry and if not having these points or one of them:
- Her father / family will not get reward for an exchange of her marriage which are always camels.
- She will also miss to get married if not having these nine points.
All has to be there. So, it is as follows:
- If you are not full (like good looking) in three, not lean (small or thin) in three and not black in three (and are nine points all together); your father, the family will not get reward of camels and you will not get married.
- But I missed three points, I will tally 6 points only;If not full in three (bit fatty as they call in Somali language), are the back (badhi in Somali Language), the legs (from foot to the knee – Kub in Somali), and the hands between elbow and the shoulder (Cudud as they call in Somali); your father will not get a reward and you will not win the card for marriage. (To further describe, he doesn’t want these three to be slender, slim or empty; he wants them in good shape).
- If not small (not thin) in three – the waistline (dhex) and the neck (luqun in Somali) – (third point I could not catch ) your father will not get a reward and you will not win the card for marriage (to describe further, he does not fancy a lady with big waist, and big neck ).
- The last three items, she has to be black in three, the eye brows, the other two I missed and couldn’t catch. Don’t worry, I will contact my friends to tell me what he said in the other two items missing and then complete the poet.
- As I understood from his poem, the singing gentleman does not adore the fat and very thin ones but cherishes a medium size lady. He doesn’t mention color because color is not a beauty; instead manners matter much in the Somali medium of marriage and why we marry is children.
In general, Somalis do care the ladies very much and are serious about them because they cover 50% in sharing life with spouse; and are partners in home. Home without wife – we say – is a house without life, esteem, entertainment and is a lonely and a hallucination. The children’s crying and uproar at home are a healing to pass by the life’s routines and frustration. They make you strive for existence and progress!
Imagine, a world without women or fertilization of women for one hundred years, how much will the world exist further; almost nothing – a type of doomsday! So, we care about women, their marriage and their well being.
In the past before 150 -200 years or so, there were wars caused by ladies in our area and hundreds killed for the reason of who will marry a lady or somebody did wrong to a lady! They are the ground for cultivation of children and bringing about communities.

Let’s fight the Obesity
There are certain things that we can employ against obesity which is a health problem that can cause many defects, disorders and complications to the body like heart diseases, blood pressure etc. as Doctors taught us and advised. I would summarize few of these things as follows:

- Taking meals at appropriate times and when in need of food.
These are few of the things that help us fight and wrestle successfully with the obesity which is nowadays a common thing in teens and middle age people and many others nearing old age.
As for me how I control not to be fat to get obsessed, I fast three days in every month; if not fasting I delay meals from morning to evening i.e. I call it half-fasting. In the morning in office, I normally have tea or coffee with few small pieces of black bread to stay in energy and active. In general, I do not eat three meals because two is more than enough.
I eat and do not eat. I always eat less; and more when starving by fasting or missing meals. I eat to live and get going in life actively and healthily but do not live to eat and get stuck with fat and obesity that will take me in nowhere between laziness and sickness.
Further, I walk one hour daily at suitable time as far as the whether is concerned, sometimes in the night at summer while it is hot; and in the evening when it is winter time and cold. I like chocolates and candies to get a bit of more calories and energy but not very much.
I like to a have a piece while I finish my walking or sport or while breaking the fasting; sometimes I take small piece to ignore and get rid of the breakfast in order to delay the launch to 2 to 3 pm.
If we party and have a feast, I take care of myself not to eat much desserts after the meal of the occasion but just take few bites and that is enough. Thanks God, I do not have an ounce of extra weight and fat. I try myself always to be gorgeous, dandy and healthy by following this formula.
Remember always: Less is more; eat less and you get more in health, leanness and elegance; becoming slim, courteous and good looking.

How to keep yourself slim, lean and healthy
I want to share with you my practical experience how I keep myself thin, slim and healthy.
